It's simple β€” and a whole lot of fun

A bike bus is a group of people who ride together on a set route, picking up cyclists along the way β€” just like a school bus, but powered by pedals and smiles.

Set Routes & Stops

We follow predictable routes with scheduled stops so you always know where to hop on. Perfect for families and beginners.

Riding safe is riding happy

Every Woburn Bike Bus ride is designed with safety at the forefront. Here's what we do to keep every rider protected.

⛑️

Helmets Required

All riders must wear a properly fitted helmet. Massachusetts law requires helmets for riders under 17.

πŸ‘©β€βœˆοΈ

Ride Leaders

Every route is led by adult volunteers who knows traffic safety and basic first aid.

🦺

High-Visibility Gear

Leaders wear bright vests for increased visibility

🚦

Traffic-Tested Routes

The Bike Bus route is planned to use the safest available paths

πŸ“±

Emergency Protocols

Every ride leader carries a first-aid kit and emergency contacts.

🀝

Community Accountability

We ride together and look out for each other. No rider is left behind, and we always wait at busy crossings.

Common questions

Everything you need to know before your first ride.

Does my child need a helmet?
Yes β€” helmets are required for all riders. Massachusetts law requires cyclists under 17 to wear a helmet, and we enforce this on every ride. Please make sure your child's helmet fits properly before joining. If you need help finding one, reach out and we can point you to local resources.
What happens if it rains?
Light drizzle? We ride! In the case of heavy rain, thunderstorms, or unsafe conditions, we'll cancel the ride and notify all signed-up families by email as early as possible. Check your inbox on Friday morning if the weather looks uncertain.
My child is young. Can a parent ride along?
Absolutely β€” parents and caregivers are always welcome and encouraged to ride with us. Younger children can join on a tag-along bike, in a trailer, or on a cargo bike. The more the merrier, and extra adults make the group even safer.
What if my school isn't on the route list?
We're actively expanding! Sign up and let us know your school β€” we're building new routes based on where families are. If there's enough interest in your area, we'll work with you to launch a route. Parent volunteers can also start their own with our support.
How do I volunteer?
We'd love your help! Ride leaders are the backbone of the Bike Bus. You don't need special certifications β€” just a bike, a helmet, and enthusiasm. Sign up using the form above and mention that you'd like to volunteer, or email us directly at hello@woburn.bike.
Is there a cost to participate?
Nope β€” the Woburn Bike Bus is completely free to join. We're a community-run initiative and rely on volunteers and occasional local sponsorships to keep things running. If you'd like to support us, the best thing you can do is spread the word!
